NEA played a critical role in the reform of the electric power sector both in creating the legal and regulatory framework for the Electric Power Sector Reform Act 2005, and the preparation of the Power Holding Company successor companies for eventual privatization as part of the unbundling of the erstwhile National Electric Power Authority.
NEA participated in the review of the Power Purchase Agreement for electricity generating facilities in Lagos State between Enron, Lagos State Government, the Nigerian Electricity Power Authority (as it then was) and the BPE on behalf of Federal Government of Nigeria.
NEA also acted for the International Finance Corporation with respect to a $103 million dollar facility for small scale power projects whereby IFC was to provide technical and financial assistance to pioneer independent power producers i.e. Geometrics Power Limited and Negris Limited.
In recognition of her knowledge and expertise in this sector, NEA’s Principal Partner was appointed as an Arbitrator on the panel established by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to arbitrate power sector stakeholder disputes.
